The nine students who went through an ordeal in a bid to enroll with Meegahatenna Primary school are now privileged to be admitted to a popular school in the zone, St. Mary’s college in Matugama.
Western Provincial Council Chief Minister Isura Devapriya said that upon the intervention of President Maithripala Sirisena, the nine students were admitted to St. Mary’s college.
The matter developed into a controversial stage after Deputy Minister Palitha Tevarapperuma intervened, and staged a fast which also led him to attempt on his life.
Later deputy minister Tevarapperuma and the mothers of 9 children were remanded under the charges of intruding Meegahatenna primary school and launching an assault on its principal.
Deputy Minister Tevarapperuma also underwent a bypass surgery following the incident.
