General Secretaries of the United National Party (UNP) and the Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP) say there is no conflict within the Unity government.
Speaking at a media briefing held at the Parliamentary Complex a short while ago, General Secretary of the UNP Minister Kabir Hashim said the party has a close relationship with President Maithripala Sirisena who is the Chairman of the SLFP and General Secretary Duminda Dissanayake.
Minister Hashim said the understanding and trust between the two parties is more important than the Memorandum of Understanding signed by the UNP and the SLFP.
Minister Kabir Hashim said the government was able to work in unity due to the trust established at the beginning. The UNP General Secretary said successful discussions were held to resolve certain issues as there were disagreements between the two parties on certain matters.
The Minister said although certain parties attempt to create problems within the UNP, the party does not resort to such actions.
General Secretary of the SLFP Duminda Dissanayake meanwhile said the individual responsible for creating a new force accepted responsibility on national television over Former President Mahinda Rajapaksa’s defeat at the 2015 Presidential election.
