It has been proposed to have SAITEM continue as a Joint Public and Private Institution.

The proposal was put forward during a discussion with Science Faculty Deans from seven State Universities held with the minister of Higher Education Lakshman Kiriella yesterday.

The deans had also held discussions with Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe yesterday.

It has been proposed that SAITEM functions under one Board as a joint Public-Private institution.

Accordingly SAITEM’s activities will be subjected to State monitoring, its administration as well as standards are scheduled to be maintained at the State Science Faculty level.

Minister of Higher Education Lakshman Kiriella said that Science Faculty Deans were due to prepare a report with regard to the proposal and submit it to the Government in the near future.

Meanwhile, Government’s attention has been drawn on setting up more private overseas medical colleges following this methodology.

Minister Kiriella said further that several of the world’s top medical colleges were interested in investing in Sri Lanka
