An 18-year-old jilted lover identified by the police as Sandeep Malan entered the DDS Degree College in Tappal, Aligarh-Uttar Pradesh in India on Wednesday (21) afternoon just as BSc first year students were taking their botany practical examination.
Malan, son of a local veterinary surgeon and a BSc student in the same college, then approached 17-year-old Neha Sharma, sitting down next to her even as the class teacher looked at him inquisitively.
What happened next left the teacher and the other students present in the class shocked and screaming in fear.
Without saying a word, Malan whipped out a pistol and shot the girl in the head
Even as terrified students rushed towards the exit and Neha’s lifeless body fell to the ground, Malan turned the gun on himself and committed suicide, reportedly.
The incident occurred at 12:30 pm on Wednesday as the college was waiting to break for lunch. Both Neha and Malan died almost immediately from gunshot wounds.
According to college students, the two were batch-mates and had known each other for some time, though the cops have ruled out any possibility of a love affair. Superintendent of police (rural) Brijesh Kumar Singh said, “It is a case of one-sided attraction gone wrong.” A few students said the two had met a few minutes before going for the class and were heard having an argument. However, they were not sure if the two were in any kind of relationship. (TOI reports)
