The Police Narcotics Bureau says that it has decided to seek support of the Interpol for the investigations into Cocaine smuggling.

The Bureau also noted that they would seek support of intelligence units operating in developed nations including the US, against the drug racket.

Reports indicated that a haul of 301.2 kg was seized by the Narcotics Bureau following an inspection of eight containers in a container terminal in Peliyagoda.

According to the investigation teams, the face value of the contraband is estimated to be over Rs. 4 billion.

It was later revealed that the drugs were smuggled into the country in a vessel, concealed in eight containers stocked with sugar imported from Brazil via Portugal.

A company located in Colombo Fort had imported the eight containers.

Discovery of the contraband is considered the biggest haul of cocaine found during a raid, as well as the biggest haul of cocaine in the South Asian region in recent times.

In addition, attention has been brought on how the contraband was released from the Customs.

Reports also revealed that the seized cocaine was planned to be smuggled to Canada and several other countries from Sri Lanka.

Meanwhile, the STF seized 93 kg of Cocaine concealed in two sugar containers imported from Brazil on the 14th of this month.
