The Moragahakanda – Kalu Ganga irrigation development project is considered the biggest irrigation project implemented under the Mahaweli Development Project.

The ceremony of depositing relics in Kalu Ganga reservoir will take place under the patronage of President Maithripala Sirisena on the 25th of this month.

The construction work of Moragahakanda reservoir, which began in 2007, was prolonged during the past few years.

However, construction work was streamlined last year, resulting in the completion of 75% of work by now.

The government expects to complete the work and vest it upon public by the end of the year.

The Public Coordinating Officer of Moragahakanda, Kalu Ganga development project P.G. Dayananda noted that 500,000 persons in Rajarata will benefit from the relevant project, directly and indirectly.
