The High Court of Colombo issued notice on the respondents of the revised bail application filed by former minister of economic development Basil Rajapaksa and former Director General of now defunct Divi Neguma Department Kithsiri Ranawaka today.
Both former minister Basil Rajapaksa and Kithsiri Ranawaka are currently in remand in connection with a 43 million rupees financial fraud allegedly committed in the then Divi Neguma Department.
Having considered the bail application, High Court Judge M.C.B.S. Moraayas issued notice on five respondents including the head of the FCID, the IGP and the Attorney General and ordered them to appear before Court on August 01st.
Former minister of Economic Development Basil Rajapaksa was arrested on July 18th when he arrived at the FCID to record a statement in connection with the now defunct Divi Neguma Department.
Later he was produced before the Kaduwela Magistrate who remanded him until August 1st. Former Minister Basil Rajapaksa filed his revised bail application today requesting the High Court to suspend the Magistrate’s order and grant him bail.
