Universities have been crippled today (28) with the ongoing the strike being staged by non-academic workers. The strike was launched yesterday on 7 demands including a systematic pension scheme.
University services including library and general administration did not function yesterday due to the strike.
Joint president of the University Trade Unions Joint Committee Edward Malwattage told our news team the on-going strike will be continued until their demands are met.
Meanwhile Sabaragamuwa University suspended study programs of all faculties due to the strike.
Vice Chancellor of Peradeniya University Professor. Upul Dissanayake also said that the university was affected by the strike.
Meanwhile University; Education and Highway Ministry Secretary D.C. Dissanayake told our news team that the treasury has been informed about the demands by university non-academic workers.
