President Maithripala Sirisena says the government will not take any measures which will harm Buddhism or the Maha Sangha.

Speaking at an event held in Kandy yesterday (27), the Head of State rejected allegations levelled against the government over removing certain paragraphs related to Buddhism in the Constitution.

President Sirisena said the government is formulating the constitution to resolve existing issues and not to raise new ones.

He said he can assure the new constitution will safeguard Buddhism and the theras.
