The Joint Opposition started its protest march for the second day from Dharmadhutha Yogasramaya in Uthuwankanda this morning.
The organizers had planned earlier to start the march from Mawanella today but they had to seek an alternative venue to restart the protest following a Court order that was issued preventing protestors entering Mawanella.
Day 2 of the march began with the participation of former president Mahinda Rajapaksa.
Meanwhile President Maithripala Sirisena is participating in several ceremonies in Mawanalla area.
This morning he was at a ceremony organized by the Education Ministry titled “The nearby is the best school” held at Mederigama Vidyalaya.
afterwards the President was scheduled to participate in ceremony to distribute computers to Piri-vena and other religious school at the Auditorium of the Mawanella Pradeshiya Sabha.
Meanwhile a group of UNP supporters conducted a parade in Maawanella to greet the government led by President Sirisena and Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe.
The parade marched towards the Pradeshiya Sabha along Hemmathagama Road from Venus Hall.
