Before concluding his official visit to Sri Lanka, Minister of Foreign Affairs (FM) Stéphane Dion toured in the Northern Province yesterday.
He met Northern Province Governor Reginald Coorey and Northern Province Chief Minister C.V. Vigneswaran during the visit.
Governor Coorey told him that over 162,000 displaced people were resettled to date. He added that several development projects are in place in the area.
After a meeting with the Canadian FM, Chief Minister Vigneswaran told the media they discussed about the current political situation in the country and development work in the Northern Province.
The Chief Minister has informed him that even though they see a political progress, the development of other sectors are slow.
He has added that only a federal solution will bring the expected results for the Tamil people of the North.
