Three persons including the President of the Independent workers union at Airport and Civil Aviation Services, have been arrested under the charges of using two state owned vehicles to pay tribute to a statue during the Pada Yatra.
The Joint Opposition’s protest march paid tribute to the statue of Late Dharmasiri Senanayake, a former General Secretary of SLFP, after arriving at Warakapola town yesterday.
Two vehicles of Air Port and Civil Aviation Services have been used for the purpose.
IGP Pujith Jayasundara also expressed his views during a ceremony held in
Galle yesterday, stating that he has received several complaints over the matter.
Secretary of the Independent workers union at Airport and Civil Aviation Services Dinesh Nandika expressed his views concerning the arrest of their Union’s President M.W.B. Muhandiram.
He noted that the relevant crane was brought to the location under the consent of the Chairman of Airport and Civil Aviation Services Saman S. Ediriweera.
When our news team inquired regarding the matter from Chairman of Airport and Civil Aviation Services Saman S. Ediriweera, he noted that he has granted permission to use the relevant crane for the purpose of offering flowers to the statue.
However, the Chairman further noted that due to a problem concerning the time period, he is unable to make further comments on the matter.
