Today is the 4th day of the ‘Jana Satana Paada Yathrawa’ organized by the Joint Opposition.
The protest march which commenced from Nittambuwa today is scheduled to end after reaching Kiribathgoda town.
Reports indicated that the march is currently passing Kirillawala Junction.
Special protection was deployed for the premises of Horagolla Bandaranaike Monument, when the protest march was passing the area.
The security measures were taken following a request made by former President Chandrika Kumaranatunga.
However, according to our correspondent, the participants of the protest march removed their caps, lowered flags and stopped chanting slogans while passing the Monument.
Former President Mahinda Rajapaksa did not join the protest march at the initial stage, however, he joined the march while it was passing Imbulgoda in Gampaha this evening.
Prior to the protest march arriving at Balummahara area, a religious ceremony was conducted by former President of Siyana Water Conservation Organization Ven. Theripeha Siridhamma Thera and another monk at the Bo tree situated at Oruthota Junction in Balummahara on Colombo – Kandy road.

Tomorrow marks the 3rd anniversary of the Rathupaswala protest demonstration where three youths were killed by military fire.
Ven. Theripeha Siridhamma Thera also placed several water bottles in front of the Bo tree with a sign board, reading ‘drop of water from Rathupaswala residents, in return for gun shots’.
However, after the monks left the premises, several officers from Gampaha Police removed the sign board and the bottles.
Residents of Rathupaswala were planning to stage a protest on Colombo – Kandy main road, when the Joint Opposition protest march approach the area.
However, the court denied permission to stage a protest.
