The Joint Opposition’s protest march which started from Kiribathgoda this morning has reached Peliyagoda and is making its way to Colombo.
The five day protest march which launched from Peradeniya on the 28th began this morning from Kiribathgoda with the participation of former president Mahinda Rajapaksa.
Meanwhile Colombo Additional magistrate Chandima Bandara ordered that protestors should not breach law and order when entering the city of Colombo
On a request made by Peliyagoda police on Friday, the Additional magisterate ordered that protestors not to act in a manner that would breach law and order or damage public property.
An order has been issued on 8 Joint Opposition MPs including Mahinda Rajapaksa, Mahindananda Aluthgamage and Lohan Ratwatte.
Meanwhile the police media division stated that special security has been deployed throughout Colombo today to deal with any clashes that might erupt due to the protest march.
The STF and riot police are on standby in this regard.
Police also said that nobody will be allowed to enter the areas that are identified as high security zones.
In the meantime, the Joint Opposition has organized a protest rally in
Colombo, however the venue where the rally is to be held has not yet been announced.
Joint Opposition MP Keheliya Rambukwella said that the conclusion of the protest march will be within city limits of Colombo.
