The 5-day protest march by the Joint Opposition which commenced from Kandy reached its destination Colombo this afternoon.

The concluding rally of the protest march began from a mobile stage at Lipton Circus in Colombo.

The protest march was launched from Gatambe Rajopavanaramaya on July 28th and proceeded along Colombo-Kandy Road for four days.

Meanwhile, the police handed over a letter to former president Mahinda Rajapaksa permitting him to hold the final rally of the protest march at Campbell Park in Borella today.

Earlier, a public rally was held with the participation of former President Rajapaksa at the Kiribathgoda Bus stand before the protest march headed towards Colombo.

Later the protesters took to the streets via Dalugama, Peliyagoda, Baseline Road, Maligawatta, Panchikawatta and Maradana. 

The protestors started jeering at the SLFP headquarters while they were passing along T.B. Jayah Mawatha.

The Police stated that the ongoing protest rally has caused heavy traffic in Town Hall and its surrounding areas.
