A mother and 2 daughters killed in a train accident; Demands of the gatekeepers of unprotected railways met
A few hours before the problems faced by gate keepers of unprotected railways were solved, a mother and her two daughters lost their lives on an unprotected railway crossing today.
The tragedy was reported from unprotected railway level crossing at the Andagala turn at Hiriyala in Kurunegala.
The 31-year old mother and 6-year and two year old daughters were hit by the Colombo bound Jaffna express train while they were passing the unprotected level crossing at the Andagala junction.
Meanwhile, the strike launched four days ago by the gate keepers of unprotected railways demanding a 5000 rupee allowance ended this afternoon.
The strike ended after minister Duminda Dissanayake mediated with the transport ministry to issue a written pledge with regard to the allowance.
The president of the unprotected railway gate keepers union said that his union received the relevant document from Anuradhapura senior SSP today.
