Deputy General Secretary of Parliament Neil Iddalwela stated that the right to information act which was passed in parliament was signed by the speaker this morning.
Minister of parliament reforms, Media, and Chief Government Whip Gayantha Karunathilaka stated at the media briefing that the speaker had signed the act last Tuesday.
Attending a media briefing held yesterday, Joint Opposition MP Dinesh Gunawardena pointed out that the speaker had not yet signed the act.
The right to information bill was passed in parliament on the 24th of June and will now be implemented as a lawful act, as the speaker signed the bill.
Meanwhile Western Provincial Council Chief Minister Isura Devapriya says that the government was able to safeguard the rights of the public by enacting the Right to Information Act.
Addressing an awareness workshop organized for the public officers in Colombo this morning, chief minister Devapriya said the national government concept helped much in getting the Right to Information Bill passed.
