The Non-Academic university workers have been continuing their strike for the 10thday despite the ultimatum issued by the authorities for them to return to work today.

Joint President of the University Trade Unions Joint Committee Edward Malwattage stated that the strike is continuing in all universities throughout the island.

However University Grants Commission announced yesterday that all workers under probation and training period will be considered as having vacated their posts unless they report for work today.

Responding to the Grants Commission announcement, Malwattage said that if the government takes action against workers under probation and training, it should be applied to all workers.

The Non Academic Trade Union Joint Committee stated that the discussion that was held with the finance Minister yesterday failed.

During the discussion they presented their 7 demands including a monthly allowance and systematic pension scheme.
