IUSF to support the strike of non academic university staff
The Non-Academic university workers’ strike continued for a 10th day today despite the ultimatum issued by the government.
University Grants Commission announced yesterday that all workers under probation and training will be considered as having vacated their posts unless they report for duty today.
However Joint President of the University Trade Unions Joint Committee Edward Malwattage stated that the government should solve their problems instead of attempting to punish the strikers.
Meanwhile the University Trade Unions Joint Committee staged a protest in front of the University Grants Commission today.
In addition, non-academic staff from other universities also staged protests in their locations.
Meanwhile Inter University Students Federation’s convener Lahiru Weerasekera stated during a media conference today that his organization will also come forward to fight against the government’s action to suppress the workers.
When our news team contacted university teachers Association president Dr. Rangika Hal-wathura said that his organization is not satisfied with the current method used by the government to solve the problems of non-academic workers.
