A house situated at Polpitiya area in Ginigathhena has drifted 60 feet below due to a landslip which occurred today.

According to our correspondent, cracks have appeared on walls and floors in 4 other houses at Polpitiya village.

The affected house is located above a tunnel, currently being constructed under Broad-land Hydro power plant at Polpitiya.

Reports indicated that no one was present in the house during the time of the incident.

Previously houses at Polpitiya village have been affected by landslips due to the hydro power plant project.

Residents of the area demanded the authorities to pay a compensation for the affected houses.

The main tunnel of the hydro power project spans from Polpitiya to Kithulgala - Kalubotenna across the Polpitiya village.

The National Building Research Organization’s Landslide Unit noted that it had previously issued a warning to residents of 33 houses in the area to relocate.
