The trade union action launched by Non-Academic University staff from the 27th of July was discontinued after a discussion held with University Education and Highway Minister Lakshman Kiriella today.

Non-Academic staff of 15 universities and their affiliated institutes throughout the island joined the strike on 7 demands, including monthly lieu allowance and a systematic pension scheme.

University Trade Unions Joint Committee stated that it decided to stop the strike and return to work immediately subsequent to the written pledge by the ministry to fulfil their demands.
