The Joint Opposition MPs have addressed a letter to President Maithripala Sirisena requesting that steps be taken to seek Supreme Court opinion on the bill for setting up the Office of Missing Persons.

They have requested by this letter that passing the draft bill due to be taken up for debate in parliament today be stopped immediately and thus action be taken to seek Supreme Court opinion on the bill.

The letter signed by 23 MPs representing the joint opposition points out that the provisions of the bill pose a huge threat to national security and sovereignty.
