Joint Opposition MPs wore black bands in parliament today in protest over the Draft Bill for setting up an office for missing persons.

This draft bill is to be debated in parliament today.

The Joint Opposition wrote to President Maithripala Sirisena yesterday requesting that he enquire about the Supreme Court’s opinion with regard to the Draft Bill. The letter also requested to suspend the passing of the Draft Bill with immediate effect.

The Joint Opposition’s Letter, with 22 MPS signatures, pointed out how the provisions of this new Bill will bring about a risk to national security and the unity of the country.
