Director General of UNESCO organization Irina Bokova, who is on an official visit in Sri Lanka, engaged in a tour at the sacred site of Galvihara in Polonnaruwa this morning.
According to our correspondent, she has participated in the religious observances conducted at the temple.
Later, the Director General of UNESCO visited Polonnaruwa historical Watadage, Siva Kovil Number 2 as well as Polonnaruwa Museum.
Following the tour in Polonnaruwa, the Director General of UNESCO expressed her views to the media, and noted that the country’s cultural heritage will stand as a great support towards the path to development and reconciliation.
Education Minister Akila Viraj Kariyawasam, Commissioner General of Archaeology Senarath Dissanayake and a group of intellectuals joined the tour of UNESCO Director General.
Reports indicated that Director General Irina Bokova also engaged in a tour in Sigiriya this evening.
