Prime Minister engages in inspection tour at Guoyuan Port
Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe and the delegation engaged in an inspection tour at Guoyuan port and container yard in Chongqing City this morning.
Guoyuan port is the latest terminal to be added to the series of ports and container yards constructed based on Yangtze River, which used to be a key trade route on the old Silk Road.
This container yard spanning 2800 meters along the bank of Yangtze River comprise highways and railway lines.
The container yard is expected to be completed in 2018.
Attention has been drawn by the Sri Lankan delegation during the China tour, to observe the mechanism and potential of developing Sri Lanka into a hub in Asia’s trade and maritime industry.
Sri Lankan Premier also met the Mayor of Chongqing city Huang Qifan.
During the meeting, the Mayor has noted that he would extend fullest support in the endeavour of steering Sri Lanka to become a hub in South Asian economy.
