MP Namal Rajapaksa who was arrested by the FCID has been remanded till August 22.

MP Namal Rajapaksa called on to the FCID to give a statement with regard to the suspicious purchasing of Rs. 125 million shares from a private company.

Gowers Company, said to be belonging to MP Namal Rajapaksa has allegedly bought these shares from Hello Corp in a suspicious manner.

Namal was questioned over four hours and was arrested later.

The FCID has also filed Action with regard to this suspicious transaction at the Fort Magistrate Court.

Earlier, FCID had informed the Fort Magistrate that it would file Action separately against six suspects including MP Namal Rajapaksa under the provisions of Money Laundering Act.

The FCID requested Court to name the six suspects including MP Namal Rajapaksa in two transactions of Rs. 15 million and Rs. 30 million.

Accordingly, a Director of Gowers Company Sudarshana Bandara Navarathna was also arrested and he was also remanded till August 22.

MP Namal Rajapaksa was arrested a short while ago.

He was called to the FCID to record a statement with regard to the suspicious purchasing shares from a private company valued at 125 million rupees. 

Gowers Company, said to be belong to MP Namal Rajapaksa, has allegedly purchased these shares from Hello Corp in a suspicious manner.

The FCID had received a compliant with regard to the transaction from the Anti-Corruption Front.

The FCID has also filed Action with the Fort Magistrate Court. 

Earlier, the FCID had informed the Fort Magistrate that it would file Action separately against 6 suspects including MP Namal Rajapaksa under the provisions of the Money Laundering Act.

The FCID requested Court to name the six suspects including MP Namal Rajapaksa in two transactions of 15 million rupees and 30 million rupees.

The case will be called on again on September 01st.
