The Police say that an investigation is currently underway into the death of retired Supreme Court Judge Sarath Abrew, to probe into the possibility of suicide.

The Former Supreme Court Judge died this morning after falling from the upstairs of his residence.

The accident occurred at the residence of the former Supreme Court Judge in Attidiya in Ratmalana.

His wife, daughter, a tutor and a house maid were present in the house at the time of the incident.

Police also discovered an unlit cigarette and a lighter from the place where 63 year old former Judge was staying.

Mt. Lavinia Magistrate Mohammed Sahabdeen ordered the police to submit a report to the court, following the post-mortem of the body.

Former Supreme Court Judge Sarath Abrew has passed away this morning, following a fall at his residence.

Director of the South Colombo Teaching Hospital Dr. Asela Gunawardana stated that former Justice Abrew had passed away prior to being admitted to hospital.

When our news team contacted Mt.Lavinia police, its spokesman confirmed the accident.

Former Supreme Court Judge Sarath Abrew was accused of committing a serious sexual attack on his domestic female worker some time ago.
