Stones were hurled at a Colombo- Avissawella bound train at Puvakpitiya last afternoon.
Railway Security Director Anura Premarathna stated that nobody was hurt.
At this time no arrests have been made in connection with the incident.
Over the last few days, several similar incidents have been reported. A Colombo bound train from Panadura was also targeted at Slave Island yesterday evening and police arrested four suspects in connection with that incident.
Investigations disclosed that the suspects are fishermen in the area.
In a similar incident, an Assistant director of Education who was travelling by train was killed when an unknown person hurled an empty bottle at a moving train.
Later the Railway Department took measures to deploy armed security officers.
The Director of Railway Security stated that 200 officers will be deployed.
