President stresses importance of sports as a key contributor towards reconciliation
President Maithripala Sirisena says that the play ground is the centre of reconciliation as there is no difference in race, religion, ethnicity, language or caste, when it comes to sports.
Addressing a sports ceremony held at the Mahaweli Sports grounds in Embilipitiya this morning, the President said that the current government has not limited reconciliation to merely a verbal promise.
Ten outstanding sports officials were awarded certificates during the ceremony.
In addition, a modern operation theatre, an ICU and a ward complex build at a cost of Rs. 1 billion were also declared open by President Maithripala Sirisena.
Meanwhile, President’s Media Unit stated that the foundation stone was laid for the five story building at the Embilipitiya Hospital.
It also stated that a sum of Rs. 5.7 billion is expected to be spent on the development of the Embilipitiya Hospital.
