Plantation Minister Naveen Dissanayake says that he would resign from his portfolio if the Sri Lanka Tea Board and the Tea Cess Fund are taken over by the ministry of Finance.

Following the opening of the Mihidum Tea Factory in Porawa-gama in Elpitiya, minister Dissanayake said he has already received information about a move to the take over the two institutions.

He also said that the funds collected as cess will be of paramount importance for the development of the tea industry.

When our news team contacted Finance Minister Ravi Karunanayake, he said that the money is managed by the consolidated fund, therefore it has only been streamlined.
