Funds will not be handed over – reiterates Minister Navin; Finance Minister provides an explanation
Minister of Plantation Industries Navin Dissanayake stated that he would not allow the Finance Ministry to take over the funds earned by the Tea industry, under the SES tax.
He revealed these facts for the first time during a ceremony held in Elpitiya on the 18th.
While participating in the three months alms giving of the victims of landslide at Samasara hill held at Aranayake today, the Minister once again reiterated that he is still concerned with regard to the relevant matter.
Minister Dissanayake further noted that the chairman of the Tea Board and himself will not consent to handing over the relevant funds, as they belong to the tea exporters, and according to his knowledge, the relevant funds have been managed properly thus far.
However, addressing a media briefing held at the Finance Ministry today, Finance Minister Ravi Karunanayake noted that the measure will be taken in accordance to the clause 147 of the Constitution, where the management of finances fall under the purview of the Finance Ministry and requires to be subjected to parliamentary supervision.
