Scholarship exam results to be released before October 15th ; Group of parents hurled coconuts in Wilgamuwa
The Examination Department says it would take measures to release the results of the Grade 5 Scholarship exam, which was held today, prior to the 15th of October.
350,701 applicants sat for the Grade 5 Scholarship exam this year at 2959 centres.
Commissioner General of Examination W.M.N.J. Pushpakumara noted that the Examination Department in Colombo is due to receive all the answer scripts by midnight tonight.
Meanwhile, a group of parents have complained that the time duration given to answer the first question paper of the Scholarship exam which was held at Wilgamuwa Nugagolla School in Matale, was insufficient.
According to our correspondent, a group of parents staged a protest near the school gate, raising their objections against the invigilator and the supervisors.
Reports indicated that the parents blocked the gates, preventing the exam officials from leaving the premises.
Our correspondent also noted that a tense situation occurred when the parents also hurled coconuts at the van which was transporting the answer scripts of the students along with the invigilator and the staff.
Reports also indicated that a group of students were greatly inconvenienced when they were misinformed concerning the examination centre.
The incident occurred at the Maradankadawala Periyakulam Maha Vidyalaya where a group of parents complained that they were directed to a different examination centre, which caused unnecessary delay to the exam applicants who nearly missed their opportunity to face the exam.
