A 1.8 million rupee robbery near a bank in Ambalangoda
The Police say investigations have been initiated, using CCTV footage to arrest the suspects who ran away with Rs. 1.86 million from a woman in the Ambalangoda town this afternoon.
Two persons on a motor cycle threatened the woman with a sharp object and fled with the money.
The 59-year old victim, a resident of Rest House Road in Hingurakgoda exchanged a cheque of Rs. 1.86 million from a private financial institution.
She subsequently, travelled to the Ambalangoda town in a three wheeler belonging to a relative.
The relative, who is the nephew of the victim, had picked his aunt from the private financial institution and had taken her to a State Bank on Galle Road for her to deposit the money.
At this juncture, two motor cyclists arrived in the scene, robbed the money from the victim while she was crossing the road, and fled the scene.
