Police stated that the nephew who accompanied his aunt to the bank in his three wheeler is one of the two suspects that have been arrested in connection with the 1.8 million rupee robbery in Ambalangoda yesterday.
The other suspect is believed to be a close friend of the nephew.
Ambalangoda police arrested the two suspects who are residents of Ja Ela last night.
Two persons on a motor bicycle threatened the woman with a sharp object and fled with the money while she was crossing the road to deposit the money into a state bank yesterday.
The 59-year old victim, a resident of Rest House Road Hingurakkgoda exchanged a cheque of 1.86 million rupees from a private financial institution.
She traveled to Ambalangoda town by a three wheeler belonging to her nephew, who resides in Balapitiya.
The nephew of the victim has confessed to police during investigation how he plotted the robbery with his friend.
Rs. 500,000 of the stolen money was deposited in a private financial institution in Elpitiya before the second suspect took away the balance to his Ja Ela home.
Police have also recovered the balance money in the possession of the suspect when he was arrested from his home in Ja Ela last night.
