The Ministry of National Policy and Economic Affairs says that news reports alleging professionals walked out from discussions on ETCA scheduled to be signed with India were false.

Issuing a statement the Ministry said the Government is still holding discussions about ETCA with professionals, business associations and trade unions.

The Government is also holding discussions with India, China and Singapore to reach economic and trade agreements.

The Government’s policy is to make Sri Lanka the economic hub of the Indian Ocean.

The statement also says that the aim of these discussions is to create 200,000 jobs and revamp the rural economy.

The Ministry said that the news reports charging that revenue proposals have been removed from the national development plan were also not true.
