A Sri Lankan couple arrested for obtaining aid from India by forging documents
A Sri Lankan Tamil couple was arrested by the Tirupur city police for obtaining Indian passports and ration cards by forging documents.
Police sources said that the couple and their two children planned to go to Sri Lanka from Madurai airport in April 2016.
However, the immigration officials managed to trace the identity of the couple and informed the ministry of external affairs who conducted a detailed inquiry and finally lodged a police complaint on Thursday.
The passports were seized and the immigration officials sent the passport to the regional passport office in Coimbatore.
