The colonel who shot his wife remanded

The army colonel who is accused of shooting his estranged wife at her residence at Isurupura in Malabe was remanded till September 9.

When the suspect was produced before Court today, Kaduwela Magistrate Dhammika Hemapala ordered the police to send the pistol which was used by the suspect to shoot his wife to the government analyst and submit a report to Court.

At the same time, the vehicle belonging to the suspect was also produced before court.

The 43-year old victim is estranged from her colonel husband and had filed a divorce case against the suspect.  Later, Court denied the suspect access to the residence of the victim.

The victim was shot at inside her home in the night of August 27th. She is currently receiving treatment at Colombo National Hospital.

During the interrogation, the colonel has told the police that he shot his wife with the intention of killing her.
