Police Commission calls a report on missing youth of Bandagiriya
The National Police Commission stated that it has called an investigation report from the ASP in charge of the area over the disappearance of G.P. Gayashan of Yahangala in Bandagiriya Hambantota.
However, no whereabouts of this youth is known since he disappeared seven days ago.
The relatives of the missing youth stated that the youth was arrested by Hambantota police on last Monday in connection with a theft of a stock of paddy. Two other youth have also been arrested along with Gayashan.
Gayashan’s relatives have been informed by police that the suspect escaped while he was escorted for a call of nature. However, when our news team contacted Hambantota police, one of its spokesmen stated that no entry has been made in police record over the arrest of the suspect.
Meanwhile, 4 policemen including Hambantota OIC have been transferred over the incident. At the same time, one of the suspects released by police informed Gayashan’s relatives that Gayashan was detained along with him in police cell.
Meanwhile, convener of Citizens’ Power organization Saman Rathnapriya stated in a media conference held in Ambalangoda that it is the duty and responsibility of the government, IGP and Police Commission to take swift action with regard to the incident.
