All minor staff of District hospitals under the Regional Director of Health Services in Hambantota have commenced a strike.

The Republic Health Services Union noted that the strike was staged due to the non-payment of monthly salaries.

The deputy secretary of the union A.A. Somasiri told our news team that the relevant salary for this month was due yesterday, but they have not received the salary as yet.

Operations of the hospital were disrupted due to the strike which commenced last evening.

Deputy Secretary A.A. Somasiri further noted that the staff will engage in emergency services, but will continue to refrain from other activities.

However, Director of Hambantota District Health Services Dr. Jayampathi Senaratne noted that the matter will be resolved by Monday.
