Dry weather conditions to prevail further; Livelihood affected in several areas

The MET department says that the prevailing dry weather conditions will continue until the end of this month.

However, these conditions have adversely affected the Polonnaruwa district.

52,514 individuals belonging to 14,348 families have been affected due to the drought.

Chief minister of the North central province, Peshala Jayaratne stated that measures are underway to distribute water to those affected.

However, those affected noted that the water distributed by bowsers is not sufficient.

People of the Kolonna divisional secretariat in Ratnapura district have also been affected by the dry weather conditions.

In addition, many fires erupted in forest reserves due to the dry weather conditions.
