Governess of the Central Provincial Council Niluka Ekanayake has given orders to cancel the second group of councilors that was to go to Russia.
The decision was taken after President Maithripala Sirisena issued directive that the Treasury approval should be obtained by Provincial Councils before they organize such overseas trips.
A communiqué issued by the President’s Media Unit states that the President was unaware of the extravagant trips organized by the Central Provincial Council.
At the same time, our news team contacted Central Provincial Council Chief Minister Sarath Ekanayake to comment on the developments with regard to the matter.
Ekanayake said that he instructed the Provincial Secretary to prepare a full report on the controversial trip and submit it to the President.
He also said that necessary funds had been allocated for the trip by the council in its previous budget.
