Court order issued against plantation workers’ protest
A group of estate workers staged a protest in Maskeliya town today, demanding to increase their daily wage up to Rs. 1000.
Maskeliya Police had requested the Hatton Magistrate’s court to prevent the protest demonstration, as it would hinder the peace in the area.
Accordingly, Hatton magistrate S. Rajendra issued an interim order preventing the protest demonstration.
Reports indicated that the police took measures to prevent the demonstration, when the protestors attempted to continue disregarding the court order.
