Ministry of Power and Renewable Energy stated that it does not expect to increase electricity tariffs.

Ceylon Electricity Board had proposed that the Public Utility Commission increase the electricity tariff by 5 per cent for all sectors.

The Ministry further stated in its communiqué that the CEB made the proposal to incur the production cost expected to be increased due to the ongoing dry weather period that has been projected from October 1st to March 31st 2017.

However, the ministry pointed out that the final decision to revise any price tariff is taken by the Ministry of Power and Renewable Energy.
