NFF leader Wimal Weerawansa’s Brother Sarath Weerawansa and NFF Kalutara District MP Jayantha Samaraweera were further remanded today, until October 24th.
The duo were arrested and remanded on September 1st, in connection with misuse of vehicles that belonged to the then Presidential Secretariat and Housing Development Authority during the previous regime.
The two suspects were remanded again when they were produced before Colombo Fort Magistrate Lanka Jayarathna today.
Sarath Weerawansa has been accused of incurring a loss of over 10 million rupees to the government, by missing government vehicles when he functioned as the private secretary to his brother, former minister of housing Wimal Weerawansa between 2009 and 2015.
Meanwhile Jayantha Samaraweera was arrested on September 28th in connection with the misuse of government vehicles during his tenure as chairman of the Housing Development Authority during the previous regime.
