The Department of Meteorology confirmed that yesterday’s rainfall ended recent drought conditions in the Eastern, Northern, North Central, Central and Sabaragamuwa provinces.

A seven month dry spell also ended yesterday in the most severely affected district of Polonnaruwa

Our reporter said that Minneriya, Medirigiriya, Diyasenapura and Welikanda also received rainfall.

The met department states that Atmospheric conditions will continue to be favorable for afternoon thundershowers.

Duty Meteorologist Nimal Bandara states that fairly heavy falls above 50mm are also likely at some places.
