The power generation process of the Norochcholai power plant has still not resumed after a technical defect occurred in a transmission line.

All three power units of the plant ceased operations this afternoon after a defect occurred in the transmission line between Kotmale to Anuradhapura.

CEB noted that due to this reason power failures were reported from several areas in the northern, north central and eastern provinces.

However, measures were taken by the CEB to restore power supply in these areas.

The national grid incurred a loss of 900 megawatts of capacity following the malfunction of the Norochcholai power plant.

However, media spokesman of the Ministry of power and renewable energy Sulakshana Jayawardena noted that measures would be taken to meet the power demand from private power plants and other plants across the island.
