President Maithripala Sirisena left for India last night aboard Sri Lankan Airlines Flight UL 171 to participate in the BRICS – BIMSTEC SUMMIT held in Goa.

The President is attending the event upon a special invitation extended by Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

According to the President’s Media Unit, President Sirisena is also expected to hold bilateral discussions with several Heads of State on the sidelines of the BIMSTEC summit.

BRICS is an international relations conference attended by the heads of state or heads of government of the five member states Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa.
