A stock of rare swallow nests to be destroyed at Madampitiya

A stock of swallow nests weighing 90 kilograms seized by the Sri Lanka Customs is to be destroyed at the Madampe cemetery today.

These swallow nests have been seized by the Customs while being smuggled from the island during the last three years.

The nests are a very rare variety in the world and has a high demand for them in the East Asian region.

At the same time, Deputy Director of the Bio Diversity Protection Unit of the Customs Department R.D.A.M.G. Niyarepola said that this is the largest ever swallow nests stock to be destroyed in the country.
