JVP charges the Prime Minister; Joint Opposition demands a special commission on Central Bank Bond scam
JVP charges that the Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe has direct involvement in the Treasury Bonds issue.
JVP leader MP Anura Kumara Dissanayake noted this while addressing a media briefing held in party headquarters today.
MP Anura Kumara Dissanayake also responded to a statement made by COPE committee member State Minister Sujeewa Senasinghe concerning reporters, after the report was presented in parliament.
Expressing his views, MP Dissanayake charged that several media firms are subjected to threats and they are being pressured to appear before various committees and councils.
He also noted that instead of pressuring the media, the relevant individuals should convene a media briefing and enlighten the public if the relevant statements are true or false.
Meanwhile, The Joint Opposition states that the President should appoint a special commission to take future action with regard to the controversial Central Bank Bond issue.
Leader of MEP MP Dinesh Gunawardana stated this during a media conference held at the parliamentary complex after the COPE report was presented to the house today.
Addressing the media, MP Mahindananda Aluthgamage stated that a full investigation should be conducted on Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe too, to ascertain his involvement in the incident.
Reporters also questioned about the possible legal action that should be taken against former Central Bank Governor Arjuna Mahendran.
