Prices of cigarettes increased between Rs. 5 to Rs. 10, a 15 per cent increase, with effect from this morning.

The cigarette manufacturing tax was increased by 5 rupees recently.

Accordingly, a spokesperson for the CTC noted that the price of a most popular cigarette will be 50 rupees.

Addressing a ceremony held in Pelmadulla yesterday, Health Minister Rajitha Senarathna said that tax on tobacco will be increased up to 9 per cent.

Meanwhile, the Finance Ministry stated that the prices of all brands of liquor will be increased with effect from today due to VAT amendment.

A  Finance Ministry senior official said that prices of all brands of liquor will be increased by 15 per cent accordingly.
